My husband has some photos of his mother in a nightspot in NYC from between 1950-1960. One he tells me is "Trini Lopez"....he is wondering if you or your father was acquainted with his Mom. She was a beautiful red-head name Estelle, who sometimes called herself Vallary.

I heard, at lunch today, the story of Mr. Lopez taking the time to escort a fan and admirer around Palm Springs and spend additional time with the lady. (This lady a hair stylist in Carmel, Ca) If the story is correct, it illustrates that Mr. Lopez is, indeed, a quality individual. As our society coarsens, acts of kindness are not only appreciated by the principles but by others made aware.
This is a local story, (The Monterey Peninsula) and not widely disseminated. It is known only by a few and will stay that way.
The psychological health of our country is under great strain lately. This little story actually "made my day" and gave me hope that the core of  good folks is still intact.

Hello mr. Lopez,
How are you doing? Verry good I hope. I enjoy your music from te first time in the early sixties, untill now. I remember clearly your gig in 1964 in the Netherlands (Edison Festival). A Dutch bassplayer, named Dubby Dubois, completed your trio at that moment, because your own bassplayer was sick. My favorite songs are:"Leaving on a jetplane, Haert of my haert and Kansas City. I wish you a lot of health and succes!

Manny happy greetings

I can remember back in 1963 my dad bought a new Magnavox console stereo. One of the first albums he
purchased was your "Live At P.J.'s" album. Later in
1965 it was "The Folk Album",and after that was the
"Moving On" album. In the following ten years or so,
we just about wore these records out. Last Christmas I found these albums were available on
c.d.'s,so I ordered the P.J.'s and the "Folk" c.d's
for him so at the age of 81 he ( as well as I )
can enjoy them again. Also, I don't know who your
drummer was back when those albums were released,
but I thought he was great! I think he was one of the reasons I became a drummer in 1967(age 12). Keep up the great work man and play in Omaha,Ne.
sometime.

Hello...Trini Lopez has always one of my favorites! I wonder if anyone has a copy of the Reprise 45 of "Sad Tomorrows"? Actually, I am looking for the flip side, a song ("I think) called "I"ve lost my love for you". Trini sang it at he end of a Hullaballo episode, and I have been unable to find the song anywhere. A copy on cassette, 45, or cd would be great! I hope sombody can help. My best always to everyone......Russ

Trini,

Gracias for many good years of many great songs! Canta Libre! You were my idol and the reason I learned to play the guitar. 36 years later I am still performing live and recording and have recently branched into music publishing with our first two releases going national. I am very proud of this. Trini, out of respect for you I would be honored if you'd let me mail you my CD of 14 original songs. 5 of which we did in Toronto with Gordon Lightfoot's Band! One of them got me published and a member of BMI. Please say yes so that my idol will be able to listen to my songs. It would mean the world to me. Blessings.
Respectfully,

Like countless others, I was inspired to play guitar by the amazing sound of Trini's rhythm guitar style of playing. His timing is so steady and strumming style is so pure and MUSICAL... the way a guitar is meant to be played....a solid accompaniment for the voice.  I never met you, Trini, but I feel I know you through your songs.....NO ONE can play "Hammer" like you.....you OWN the song!  Love you, man.

Hi Trini,
as a young teenage visitor to N. York 1965, I saved all my money to buy a ticket to see you play at Basin Street East.
How disappointed I was when you refused to give me your autograph because you disagreed with my country's politics.
It has plagued me for years that you wronged me and
everytime I heard "green green" on the radio I was
pained. I still reside in South africa and wonder what you would say to Mugabe ? So, thats Life.
Merry Christmas,

We were lucky enough to be a part of your PBS Latin Legends audience. Having never seen you live "in person" before we expected it would be great...but we could never have imagined what we witnessed that night!! All the acts who performed that night were terrific. Each one better than the last, but Trini stole the show!!! As the host he was superb...a natural. His live performance was electric, the audience could feel his love for them and performing. When you watch it on TV you'll see it but we can tell you first hand, being there we could FEEL it!!!! Keep rockin' Trini!! You are ageless!!! Can't wait to see you again...

He gave me a purple bunny one year for my bithday when we went to the enclave in dallas and Jesse blow the horn in Bills ear...... (to wake him up) wow!!! I hope all is well. I have been a fan since I was a little girl, I begged my mom to let me stay up past my bedtime to see him perform on the Ed Sullivan show. I only had one of his albums it was his greatest hits one. Let me tell you when I was ill it would cheer me up to listen to him sing I think I knew almost every word to every song on that album. Unfortunatly I lost it when I was in my late teens, I searched for another one for many years only to be disapointed. But now I can order it and in a CD to hear in my car and in my room or office. Thank you Trini for all those wonderful memories. God Bless you Wanda Costa,Fla

My parents were HUGE fans of Trini back when I was growing up in Connecticut in the 60's. So, of course, I became a HUGE fan myself. I would play the broom and pretend that I was live at PJ's and rock the house. Trini's style was so energetic and alive it was hard to stop listening to his music. Even today (in 2008), when I perform live, I throw in a few songs that Trini made famous. I'll always be a fan and I'm so glad my parents introduced me to his music. In fact, I even have a link to this website on my "LINKS" page. Cheers Trini for a lifetime of great tunes... All the best, Mike mikemcgillmusic.com

My mother adored Trini Lopez.  She and I used to dance to his music.  I have very vivid memories of our old portable record player, Trini's record covers, the wonderful music and the fun time I had learning to dance.  My mom suffered from recurring brain tumors and with each surgery over the years we lost some of her and she lost most of her memory but she always remembered the words to so many of the songs Trini Lopez sang and never would give up his albums to any of us.  Thank you Mr. Lopez for unknowingly being such a big part of my life and the continuing memories of my mom now that she's gone.  God bless you, Janice

The music of Trini Lopez gets better with every passing year! Trini has made the definitive versions of songs like, "Lemon Tree" and "If I Had A Hammer". Trini's guitar work with his trio proved how great a musician he is as well. No doubt he is deserving of a signature model guitar. I wish Gibson would re-issue the Trini Lopez models again. Mr. Lopez is an inspiration for singers and players who love "good Music"! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Scott Meli

I just completed listening to your "Trini Lopez at PJ'S" album that I purchased in 1963. It brings back memories of when I would listen to my Roberts 990 4-track using earphones while laying on my living room carpet. Unfortunately, about the only thing that I saved from a garage fire in 1984 were the Roberts and my collection of tapes. I still enjoy listening to your first few tapes even though the tape "hiss" is a little annoying. Best wishes. You have come a long way.

Terrific performance tonight Trini!!!  I LOVED actually seeing you singing again as well hearing you.  A long time to wait, but it was worth it.  You looked and sounded great!!!  Too bad your guitar couldn't have been tuned to your satisfaction before you got out there on stage.  Your hat was giving you a bit of trouble too, wasn't it?  Oh well...  : )
I enjoyed your very nice introduction of Werner (familiar to me only because of reading his messages on your site), but I wish he had turned toward the camera in order to have been able to see his face.  I don't think they even showed the other man you introduced.

I wish you would have sung more...possibly a song from your next CD.  I heard Ron Dante say it wouldn't be out until November??

Well, I'm sure you'll be hearing from a lot of fans around the world who tuned into the show tonight.  Enjoy all of the praise.  You deserve every bit of it!!!

Love ya,
Barbara

Hello, I have been a Trini Lopez fan since the beginning. T.L. at P.J.'s was my first record when I was 15 years old. I think someone should write a real good biography about Trini and I think they should bring out a box of cd's with all the Reprise albums: with the Folk album, the Rhythm and blues album, the Love album, On the Move, etc., etc.. That should be something and a real tribute to his significance for the Latin American music. Thank you for all the musical pleasure you gave to me in my life. Peter Herzberg, The Netherlands

I still have several of your 45 RPM records. I guess my favorite was always "Don't Let Your Sweet Love Die" I eventually married a wonderful Dallas musician who knew both you and Jesse. Dear Mr. Lopez, I am a fan of yours from Holland. In 1963, I was 21 then, I visited the harbor Bergen in Norway. One night in a restaurant, a Spanish orchestra "Ayala's Combo" was playing and someone asked me to sing something, knowing that I did this also in Holland. So I sang two of your most populair songs "If I had a Hammer" and "Kansas City" . I had a lot of succes with that. Someone in the audience seems to be a memeber of an musical trio, playing in the same restaurant during lunchtime. This trio was called "Kvarvens Trio", and mr. Erling Kvarven was the best accordeonplayer in Norway that time, winning a contest on the Norwegian TV. They had no singer, so they asked me if I was free. From that moment on I worked with them in different Hotels in the south of Norway for about half a year. It was a wonderful time and this was thanks to your songs. Now on this site I have the opportunity to thank you for that. I'm 64 years of age now and I'm still singing but now as a singer in a Jazz Combo, doing the Standard Jazz songs. I do hope you read this e-mail in person. Wit all respect and kind regards, Wim Karmelk Holland.

I wish could see my 1964 Gibson Dove. I wish I could send you a picture. It was the first guitar I ever played giving to me by my step-father in NY. I still play it when I have a gig to do. Gibson's have a tone and feel like no other guitars. I hope maybe in the future you may tour the New England area since I live here in Maine. (We do have great summers and fall)...! Hi all! Great news! Trini Lopez' classic album..."The Whole Enchilada" is set to be released on CD April 13. I am hoping this will be available on Trini's web-site as soon as possible. Trini featured many of these songs in his act circa 1969. This is great material, folks! One of Trini's favorite songs that will lead off the CD will be "Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying", complete with an introduction by Trini. Other notables will be "My Baby Loves Sad Songs", with a Frank Sinatra reference. I Wonder What She's Doing Tonite, and a special version of "Lalena" with special Spanish lyrics by Trini himself! This is a "must have" for all Trini fans! Bill Lutters (Daytona Beach, Florida USA)

We don't hear too much about Trini over here in South Africa any longer, so I "googled" him. WOW, there's a whole lot of stuff. I lived in Canada and worked for Reprise Records in the late 60's. I had the pleasure of meeting him and saw his show ELEVEN times!! Great to see he's still around. Trish, Durban, South Africa

Hi everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to follow-up on a post about the DVD "Trini Lopez In Europe". As Werner from Austria mentioned, the music by Trini on this DVD (and all of Trini's music!) is indeed "TIMELESS". The concert of Trini from Brussels is fantastic to say the least! It was recorded a week after Trini's water-shed engagement at the "Olympia Theatre" in Paris a week earlier. Trini "stole" the show from the Beatles! This concert of Trini on "Trini Lopez In Europe" will show just how Trini took Europe by storm! This (DVD) is available on Trini's web-site, and it is a must have for Trini fans everywhere, including the huge amount of young people who are discovering Trini's music for the first time.--Bill Lutters (Daytona Beach, Florida USA)

I was recently in my local drugstore in Orange City Fla when I heard Trini on the radio..if I had a hammer. I stopped and started to sing and dance in the isle. As a young girl both my grandmother and mother LOVED Trini Lopez and I grew up singing and dancing away to his live at PJ's album. My Grandmother was in the audience when that album was recorded and the rest is history! I was born the year that album was made, and it goes to show his music is great for everyone. I will be ordering the cd on line and CAN"T WAIT to start dancing in my living room!!! Thanks Trini from 3 generations! Unfortunately my Mother and Grandmother on no longer with us, but I thank them for introducing me early on to such great music!

Dear Trini:

Lucky me.  I saw you perform in 1964 at Mr. Kelly's in Chicago and later at the Palmer House in Chicago.  I was 18 and became an adoring fan.

Not long ago in Torrance, CA some of us were having lunch after tennis and your out of the blue name came up.  I told everyone I was a big fan of yours---but it had been a long time since I saw you or heard your music.    Later that week, I played "The Love Album" and it was as if no time had passed at all.  I remember instantly why your songs sent me to the moon.  I especially love listening to "Are You Sincere"---I have played it over and over so many times that it is now permanently recorded in my brain! The joy and love you radiate and your gentle soul come through in every word in the lyrics.  It is as though you are "heaven-sent."

Thank you for sharing your talent with the world and for all the good feelings your music generates.

Sincerely yours,

Rita Szyszko

Hola Mr. Lopez,
It occurred to me the other day, as I was looking at the framed cover of my absolute favorite "The Latin Album" on my wall (sharing a space with the cover from Eydie Gorme and Trio Los Panchos '"Great Love Songs in Spanish"), that I should write to you to thank you for sharing your music with the world, and in doing so, sparking a lifelong love of Spanish for me, and helping me to become what my friends call and "honorary Latina."

Despite the fact that my mother was a Spanish and French professor, and she originally spoke Italian as a child, I didn't grow up speaking any language other than English.  But I did inherit my mother's facility for languages.  And, just as fortunately, I also "inherited" the two record albums mentioned above, which she must have bought in the 1950's or whenever they originally came out.

I started studying Spanish in 11th grade and immediately knew I liked it.  But I think it started to become much more than "like" when I came across "The Latin Album" in our family's extremely tiny LP collection.  I listened to that record over and over and over.  And over again.  I loved every song, even before I could understand the lyrics.  And then, miraculously, after all that listening. I started to be able to understand the lyrics!

(My mother also knew the power of your music to teach Spanish - once I sat in on one of her college Spanish classes, and she was using your version of "Adelita" to teach the subjunctive.)

I have listened to that record over and over and over again in the more than 30 years since.  I recorded in onto a cassette tape.  And then FINALLY, after a very exhaustive search (ending up with a record store in England), I was able to find it on CD and bought it, along with extra copies for my dearest friends.

Since falling in love with Spanish language and culture - and yes, I do think it was "The Latin Album" that really started it - I have lived in Spain, become fluent in Spanish, gained an entire community of Latin friends, become a Spanish teacher, and now, a producer of Spanish educational videos featuring US Latinos.

And I have become a Latin music addict: I can't tell you how many CDs I own and how many albums I have bought from iTunes, in every Latin genre you can think of, from bolero to rock to pop to flamenco to merengue to salsa to reggaeton to you name it.

And my favorite, favorite album, though it all, is still "The Latin Album"

Thank you so, so much for being a spark for me.  I hope I am a spark for others to also fall in love with Spanish language and culture... and that's why I named my Spanish educational video company "Chispa Productions."  And my videos are designed specifically to teach Spanish by featuring the Spanish language and Latino cultures in the United States, and by celebrating the contributions of Latinos to our culture.  With this, I feel as if I have come full circle from when I first started learning Spanish 30 years ago, with the Spanish language songs of a Mexican-American singer born in Texas.

I wish you all the best, and once again - un millon de gracias.

Un fuertisimo abrazo.

Ruth Kunstadter
